Surgical Services	We are equipped to perform most surgical procedures from routine spays to complex orthopedic or cancer surgeries in a sterile environment. We take pride in the fact that we use modern anesthesia and patient monitoring systems. In addition, we also have oxygen available throughout the hospital. Patients are screened for safety and may also do pre-anesthetic testing. All anesthesias are carefully monitored and specifically tailored for your pet. Our surgical facility offers a heated surgery table for greater comfort, fully trained veterinary and technical staff, sterilization techniques; ECG and oxygen saturation, and blood pressure and carbon dioxide monitoring. Advanced-The veterinarian and staff at Northside have a wide variety of experience along with advanced surgical facilities to deal with any treatment or emergency medical situation your pet may require. Laser-The advantages to the carbon dioxide laser is that it provides pinpoint accuracy to soft tissue surgery with less pain, less bleeding and quicker return to normal function. The laser can be used for a wide variety of procedures including; declaw and dewclaw removal, oral surgery, lump removal, cosmetic procedures and as an aid in a variety of procedures. Orthopedic-Northside Veterinary Hospital has a well equipped orthopedic department as well as experience in providing care of any orthopedic problems. We have been performing surgeries since 1990 to fix fractures, joint abnormalities and corrective procedures. We use bone plates, pins, external fixaters and extra cellular matrices to provide our patients with the state of the art in orthopedic care. Pain Management Animals feel pain and discomfort, just as people do under the same circumstances. Therefore, we recognize that alleviating pain in animals is important for good patient care, and we want every animal to be as comfortable as possible. All major surgery patients are discharged with pain control medications. The trans-dermal pain patch is another sophisticated option for pain relief. Anesthesia is the weakest link in any surgical procedure. After all, we are taking an animal to the state of unconsciousness and then bringing them back at the end of the procedure. We try to reduce the risks to this by offering state of the art agents. We use a variety of injectable agents of which propofol, an ultra short acting anesthetic agent is used to intubate the patient and then they are maintained on inhalant gas of either isoflorane or sevoflorane, depending on the animal or procedure.
Endoscopy, Urethroscopy, and Cystoscopy	Endoscopy is the ability to look inside the body using several very small fiber optic cameras attached to a flexible or rigid tube. Northside offers this high-tech service which allows direct visual examination of your pet's organs and body cavity. This permits us to more accurately diagnose and treat your pet. In addition, the endoscope can be used more aggressively to take a biopsy sample, or to perform minimally invasive surgery. Surgeries performed with the endoscope are usually less traumatic for the pet than standard surgery, which allows for a quicker recovery time. The use of a fiber optic light source allows visualization in deep, dark spaces not normally easily viewed. This can be used to clean and treat chronic ear problems, laproscopic procedures, arthroscopic procedures, bronchoscopic- & urethroscopic procedures, and allows documentation by recording the images digitally or on film.
BloodTransfusions	We have donor pets that live here at Northside and at home with their owners. All blood is carefully screened for diseases.
Radiology	Radiographs (X-Rays) are very important for diagnosing certain medical and surgical problems. This procedure is performed routinely with animals either being awake or anesthetized. We are also able to do a variety of contrast studies for medical evaluation. In addition, we can radiograph breeding pets for hip dysplasiz and OFA certification. Complete radiographic equipment with an automatic developing processor allows rapid reading of radiographs (X-rays).
Dental Care	Regular, professional cleaning of your pet's teeth is very important to maintaining their overall health. Northside provides a full line of dental care. We perform routine dental cleanings on all animals as well as endodonics. Endodonics include extractions, root canals, tooth restoration, dental caps and dental alignment procedures. Exotic AnimalsNorthside offers care for exotic pets with the exception of snakes. These include ferrets, rabbits, lizards, chinchillas, turtles, kangaroos, reindeer, and monkeys. We at Northside are happy to provide the best possible health care for your pets. We pride ourselves in providing a friendly, courteous, professional and relaxed atmosphere for you and your pets. We have treated dogs, cats, horses, skunks, raccoons, hamsters, reindeer, zebras, monkeys, kangaroos, iguanas as well as many others.
Wellness	At least once a year, your pet needs a complete physical exam. Remember, your pet ages a lot quicker than you do and a lot can happen in 12 months. Many of the recent discoveries and innovations in veterinary medicine can protect your pet from most major diseases. A lot of today's immunizations and preventative treatments did not exist just a few years ago. Dr. Wood and staff can help you decide what preventative measures are necessary for you pet(s). Heartworm testing, parasite tests, and specialized blood testing is also available in-house for all life stages. Another part of keeping your pet healthy is the Home Again Microchip Pet Identification System. This microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size of a grain of rice. It is injected beneath the pet's skin, between the shoulder blades, and stays there for the life of the pet. This procedure is as easy and painless as a routine vaccination. Every microchip has a unique number. This number and all of the owner's information are listed in a national pet registry. Most animal shelters and veterinarians have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these microchips. The lost pet can then be quickly reunited with its family.
Reproduction	We perform a number of breeder services including the Target Test and leutenizing hormone assay for ovulation timing
In House Laboratory and Diagnostic Testing	Laboratory testing plays a vital role in the early detection of changes in your pet's health. Diagnostic tests provide essential information by which we can identify blood disorders, kidney and liver disease, diabetes, infection, cancer, thyroid disease, and other hormonal problems. Our extensive laboratory provides fast and accurate information that is required for the well being of your pet.
BOARDING	Boarding and isolation services are available at Northside Veterinary Hospital 365 days a year. All animals that are staying at Northside must be up to date on their vaccinations according to the American Animal Hospital Alliance.
CANCER	We have performed chemotherapy for many different kinds of cancer over the years. Most side effects are minor and many families can enjoy more time with their pet. In addition, this can be done with the pet still maintaining a high quality of life. Northside has been providing Chemotherapy options for patients with a wide variety of cancer with some great success. We can provide a custom made protocol to meet your pets needs as well as your individual financial constraints.
NUTRITION	We stock an extensive range of Eukanuba Prescription Diets, as well as IVD, Purina CNM (clinical nutrition management) and Hill's Prescription Diets. These diets help with the treatment of a variety of diseases including those which affect the kidneys, heart, and liver. In addition, there are diets for teeth, intestinal conditions, allergies, and obesity which have all been shown conclusively to help the underlying disease process. The standard Eukanuba foods are also available for the many life stages of your pet. We also carry dietary treats and supplements. Our staff will be happy to discuss the optimum dietary needs for your pet. We can help answer all your questions, such as "Is this a diet food for the obese, or high protein for the performance animal?"

Behavior and Counseling/Pharmacological Treatments	We recognize that the best pet is uaually a well-behaved one. We do make an effort to counsel clients on behavior modification. Occasionally, we will prescribe psychogenic medications (e.g. Prozac) because we understand these medications may be needed to help us control unacceptable behaviors in our client's pets.
