Proper Diet Essential to Overall Health
It is extremely important that you feed your cat or dog a well balanced diet specifically designed for your pet. A proper diet plays a major part in your pet's overall good health and longevity it also plays a big part in the management of many diseases and in maintaining the proper weight for your pet.
Basically, you need to feed your pet a diet intended for the purpose you want to achieve. When the pet is a puppy or kitten, it will need the added nutrition of a growth food. When it is an adult, an adult food is best. There is specialty foods as well, designed for older pets or obese pets. Your veterinarian can help you decide if your pet needs one of these specialty foods.
Obesity has become a major problem among our pets today. Most pets will eat whatever is put in front of them and in those circumstances it is very easy for the pet to become overweight almost before we even realize it.
Another factor in keeping your pet from getting overweight is exercise. Try to make sure that your pet gets daily exercise and when low exercise periods occur (such as winter when most pets don't want to spend a lot of time outside), cut down on the amount of food you are feeding to compensate.
Your veterinarian will probably have suggestions on the best type of food for your pet and will probably want to discuss your pet's diet with you. |
